[ History ] :
[ Personality ] :
Chie Satonaka is one in a handful of Persona users that live in the small country town of Inaba. Growing up here, she befriended Yukiko Amagi, of which whom Chie had made a vow to protect in any way she possibly could manage to do. The fact she is stubborn and quick to strike back when angry has helped to keep this vow alive and kicking, and not just for her best friend. Chie stands up for those who need it, having a no-tolerance stance on bullying. If she sees a kid getting picked on, she will rush in to save the day without a second thought no matter who it is. Chie just doesn't want to be seen as weak or as a failure. She wants to prove that she isn't in any sense of the word whilst protecting people, and this is why she goes to such lengths.
Although despite her protective demeanor of Yukiko when it comes to boys' unwanted advances, Chie is still jealous that her best friend gets all the attention since she herself has always been seen as just "one of the guys" due to her very tomboyish personality. She just doesn't feel like guys like her, which isn't entirely true seeing as throughout the game there are a few random guys who actually will seem to have interest in her, including Kou Ichijou from the basketball team.
One major part of Chie's character is what her shadow brings out about her to us, the part of her she tried to suppress. This would be how she is envious of how Yukiko is good looking and feminine. Along with this, Chie became obsessed with how Yukiko needed her protection, unable do anything without Chie's assistance. But still, she saw herself as pathetic and couldn't act alone, too. Yukiko depended on her, and this was so important to her that she didn't want to lose it. Along with her jealousy with the boys, Chie felt she couldn't win as a girl when compared to her best friend. She eventually gives in and accepts her flaws, and she gains the ability to fight with a Persona like the main character and Yosuke both could. She then goes on to fight and save Yukiko with her newfound abilities.
Later into the game if you complete the Chariot social link, Chie discovers that she genuinely wanted to protect Yukiko without any underlying selfish motivations, and this leads to her persona Tomoe evolving into her final form, Suzuka Gongen.
Chie has a short temper, which goes hand-in-hand with her willingness to jump into action without thinking about the consequences first. Her temper comes out very frequently towards Yosuke, who she has on several occassions also kicked between the legs over things as trivial as breaking one of her prized kung fu dvds. But despite how much she seems to pick on him and bully him a tad bit (despite being so headstrong against bullies), Chie does still show she cares about her friendship with him and worries about his wellbeing as much as anyone else. She is also quite the mooch. Frequently she'll badger him for steak, especially after he's upset her in some way or the other.
Kung fu is a passion of Chie's that has gone so far as for her to teach herself the moves she sees in her dvds and books. Because of this, she has become quite a tough girl, her kicks strong enough to one-hit-kill enemies (which none of the other characters' specials do!) and quite possibly cause Yosuke to never have children one day if she doesn't stop her habit of kicking him in the nads. But back on a serious note, Chie trains daily, having put forth all her free time into it, and her fighting skills definitely show it. Her love of it and her reasoning for learning the art all goes back to her will to protect others.
In battle while inside the tv, Chie also specializes in the use of ice (or bufu) magic, although hers isn't as good as Teddie's. She is still more of a physical attack more than anything, in the end. Chie is resistant to ice moves on herself, although, but has a weakness to fire type moves.
[ Strengths/Weaknesses ] :
+ Amazing leg strength, enough to even kick a shadow like so:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX-A2F6QKwQ
+ She is skilled in Kung Fu, in which she is self taught. This is where her immense leg strength stems from, since she trains herself daily to get better and stronger from doing the things she sees in her kung fu dvds.
+ Is capable of eating lots of food, almost as if she has an endless pit for a stomach. Especially steak.
+ Chie is very protective and loyal toward her friends.
- Is afraid of bugs, and even freaks out at the mention of one possibly being on her (even if it's just a joke).
- Chie cannot cook. At all. Anything she attempts to make ends up being too atrocious for anyone to stomach.
- She isn't very confident in herself when it comes to boys. She feels she doesn't meet the expectations of what a girl should be, which leads her to believe that guys have 0% interest in her and overlook her. Especially since Yukiko, one of the most popular girls in the school, is her best friend and all the boys flock to her instead. Chie's wrong, although, and this is proven randomly in the game from other characters' dialogue.
- Is easily taken over by her emotions, which leads to impulsive actions such as rushing into Yukiko's castle to save her despite her friends' warnings. Like Bruce Lee has said (and she quotes), "Don't think, feel!"
[ Sample ] :
"Why am I soaked?!" Chie cried out after awakening finally. The brown-haired girl stood up off the plaza ground and examined her wet track jacket, making an annoyed grumble. This was just a great to wake up, wasn't it?
She unzipped her jacket and fanned it out a bit to shake some of the water off of it, not that it really helped dry the rest of her. But atleast if she didn't have that on, Chie figured her body would dry quicker this way. After her green jacket seemed to be less wet than before (although not by much), she tied it around her waist.
"W..Wait, where exactly am I? This isn't Inaba at all!"
How did she get here? Where even was here?! She appeared to be in some city that was underwater, from the look of things. The only conclusion Chie could come to was this was some strange world inside the television, but it didn't make sense to be back in here when the murders were all done and over with by now. Besides, there was no reason she'd wake up here alone, drenched with water at that.
She took this moment to admire the dome above her and the plaza in general, moving her wet bangs out of her eyes a tad bit. It looked so...different from the inside of the television, so real. There wasn't any dense fog in the air either obstructing her vision.
This couldn't be inside of the television, no. Chie was somewhere completely new and foreign to her. But why?
Snapping back to reality, the girl looked around the plaza. She decided reaching out to the nearest passerby would be the best thing to do, it was time to get some answers!
"Um, excuse me? Could you tell me where I'm at?"
